Session Description

Future-ready students are living and learning in an increasingly global community. Using global literature, students can develop intercultural understandings, empathy, and the ability to act as thoughtful, compassionate, and effective global citizens. Through collection development and instructional partnerships, school librarians guide students in thinking deeply about how culture shapes worldviews. With a framework for evaluation and access to critical reviews, librarians can develop collections and literature-based learning experiences that expand children’s and young adults’ worldviews.

Session Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify resources and critical reviews for developing global literature collections;
2. Use a framework to help students think critically about intercultural understanding;
3. Apply and reflect on intercultural understanding through a hands-on literature engagement experience.
